Artist's Description

(Original Caption) Actor Jimmy Stewart, (R), repeats a famous pose--the one at left of Charles a. Lindbergh taken by Frank Merta at the time the "Lone Eagle" made his solo transatlantic flight in 1927. The striking portrait of Lindbergh is one of the most widely reproduced photos of all time. Stewart plays Lindbergh in the film, The Spirit of St. Louis, which was the name of the single engine plane that the pioneer airman flew 3,600 miles in 33 1/2 hours, alone, to make history.Image provided by Getty Images.
